Reflections (interior) is a performance for four performers
and square mirrors.
In a first part, the mirrors function
as gongs and are struck with mallets, while another mirror,
equipped with a contact microphone, generates subtly
changing feedback sounds whenever a mirror is struck across
the room.In the second part, these same sounds reappear within individual audio tracks, played back through four mirrors that now function as loudspeakers. Different types of sound signals, derived from the striking of the mirrors and feedback, serve as cues for the performers and correspond to specific holding gestures. As the sounds occur, the performers adjust their mirrors accordingly, creating a slowly evolving configuration of reflective surfaces. The moving reflections capture fragments of the room and the audience, while the composition of sound signals forms a quietly shifting field of sonic fragments.
